Bustin’ Da Phat Rhymes

Ok, I spend too much spare time online in various forums. On one religion and philosophy forum during a discussion of what an eternal afterlife would be like, one of these ‘I can’t think for myself’ xtians quoted not the bible but some little hymn or poem. Here it is:
This World Is Not My Home

1. This world is not my home I’m just passing through
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

2. They’re all expecting me and that’s one thing I know
my savior pardoned me and now I onward go
I know He’ll take me through though I am weak and poor
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

3. Just up in Glory Land we’ll live eternally
the Saints on every hand are shouting victory
their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven’s shore
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Well just to show that’s just dumb and pointless to post crap like that as a response in a discussion I replied with this:

Anyone Can Write A Pretty Poem

1. Anyone can write a pretty poem
about the world not being home,
of magical beings beckoning from on high
and a big daddy in the sky

Oh man I really feel for you
if there’s nothing more you can do
than imagine a beckoning from on high
and a big daddy in the sky

2. Everyone’s expecting you to wake
and join reality for goodness sake
so enough with committing to a lie
and a big daddy in the sky

Oh man I really feel for you
if there’s nothing more you can do
than imagine a beckoning from on high
and a big daddy in the sky

3. Just up and accept reality
and allow your reason to have victory
wasting no more time on lies
and a big daddy in the sky

Oh man I really feel for you
if there’s nothing more you can do
than imagine a beckoning from on high
and a big daddy in the sky

Stupid. I feel I’ve just had an Eminem moment, which I guess is better than an enema moment, sorta.

  1. Frickin hilarious! It could be an actual song….got more? And can I borrow it if I bring it back? I would like to post it on my blog….thanks.

  2. I have no idea where it came from. I don’t know xtian songs and poems. Years ago I did this sort of thing a lot in Creative Writing class, having to write a poem based on another poem. That was harder. This was easy. It just spewed out fast. I actually wrote more before I looked again at the original and realized crap, it just keeps repeating the same lines.

So yeah, sure, spread it around. Let me know where and when.

    Thanks

  3. I liked yours a lot better than theirs… but you would guess THAT.
    Way to go, PhillyRapper.
