Atheist Diversionary Tactics

In response to Dr. Metcalf’s article here…
First, if the laws of the old testament have been abrogated, not all christians got the memo.
Why does anti-gay christian commentary always refer to Leviticus or genesis 19 first and almost exclusively? Why make a fuss over removing 10 commandments monuments then?
Next, he asserts that Western Europe’s population is reducing drastically, in sharp contrast to areas he labels islamic such as the Middle East and Africa. He then goes on to say that countries such as France have allowed their muslim population to exceed 10%. By creating a fear that soon we’ll be overrun with muslims, he then blames Western Europe’s divergence from “traditional religious mores” (ie – christian mores) for this “problem”. These divergences he mentions are gender equality (yup, the bible is pretty specific on the worth of a woman, I believe equivalent to an ox) and abortion (which isn’t in the bible, btw). The claim that the population decline in Western Europe “threatens it’s very existence” is suspect in light of the fact that it’s population density remains one of the highest in the world. Vilifying abortion is an easy sell these days in America since there already exists a sizable, vocal group against it but good luck selling gender inequality. He then points out that muslims make up only 2% of the US population, clearly implying that it’s thanks to our adherence to “traditional religious mores”. Incidentally, muslims seem to assimilate better in the US.
Along with claiming that the reason for the Iraq invasion was to liberate Iraqis from tyranny (wmds, anyone?) the rest is more talk about islam is the boogeyman and damn these atheists for focusing their energy on christianity instead of the “real threat” and damn them from diverting attention away from it. News flash – atheism is against ALL religion and is especially offended by things like 9/11. It just so happens, as the good Doc points out, only 2% of the population in the US is muslim and except for France, they make up less than 10% of the population of Western Europe. What’s the majority religion? christianity. So atheists of the US and Europe naturally are going to focus most of their energies on christianity. American atheists especially since the christian fundamentalists have been working behind the scenes for years to grab political power and have exploited 9/11 to advance their goals by doing what the good Doc here did, portraying muslims as the boogeyman.
Atheists saw 9/11 as proof religion is dangerous. Christians largely saw 9/11 as proof the “wrong” religion is dangerous. You tell me who’s diverting attention from the real problem.

Welcome to the Atheosphere. I’m happy to be the first person to leave a comment on this new blog. Good post, and keep it up. I’ll be looking forward to reading more.
The anti-Muslim rhetoric is left over from the crusades. The Christians have once more donned their armor and are ready to fight for ownership of the true cross (which today we know as “oil fields”)again. Similarly, the Muslims have their own glorious history of anti-Christian propaganda, going back to the days when they first decided to take over the world for Allah. And of course, everyone piles on the Jews when given the chance — including other Jews.
It’s a good thing the world has religion to bring us comfort during these warlike times.

And I’m pleased as punch (what the FUCK does that phrase MEAN?)to be the second commenter here. I need to point out that your date mechanism is all screwed up and showing 4 months in the future. I believe you can go to “template” and fix the problem.
This is some good writing. I’m going to have to stop by here on a regular basis. I’m going to predict that by September I’ll be a regular commenter (I’m out of town for the next month, but see you then)!
